New Zealand managed to put on just five runs to their overnight total before getting bowled out. Nuwan Pradeep got Trent Boult out, caught by Rangana Herath for a duck. Sri Lanka have taken a 55-run lead in the match.

Ross Taylor departs after putting on a 67-run stand for the third wicket with Kane Williamson. Yet again, it is a short-pitched delivery that gets the batsman. Taylor went for the pull, got a top-edge and the fine leg fielder took a superb catch to help Sri Lanka get the crucial breakthrough.

Sri Lanka are off to a good start in the second innings. Openers Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Mendis have put on a half-century partnership and taken the lead over 100 runs with 10 wickets in hand. They have seized complete control in the match.

Hello and welcome to the live updates of the third day of the second Test between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at the Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday (December 20). Sri Lanka are in command of the match after Chameer'a five-for reduced New Zealand to 232-9 on Day Two. The hosts trail Sri Lanka by 60 runs with just a solitary wicket in hand.

For the first time in the series, Sri Lanka have taken control in a match. It will be interesting to see if they can hold on to it or consolidate it on Day Three or give it away to the hosts.

New Zealand have got their first breakthrough of the day. Dimuth Karunaratne got into an awkward position trying to play a short-pitched delivery off Doug Bracewell and ended up getting an edge which lobbed to Tim Southee at second slips

Second time in three balls, New Zealand manage to strike. Doug Bracewell bangs the ball short and the ball goes past the batsman to the wicketkeeper. Did it brush the batsman's gloves? New Zealand players think so, the umpire doesn't. Brendon McCullum takes a review. There isn't much on Hot Spot or Snicko to suggest that he has gloved it, but the third umpire rules in favour of New Zealand

New Zealand take their third wicket in as many overs in order to make a comeback into the match. Neil Wagner pitched it short, on to Dinesh Chandimal's hips and the in-form batsman looked to work it away towards the leg side. Instead, he ended up giving a catch to Martin Guptill at leg gully.

While Sri Lanka dominated most parts of the first session, New Zealand hit back with three wickets in the final few overs before Lunch. The session was even-stevens in the context of the match. But New Zealand have the momentum going into the break.

Kusal Mendis, who had battled his way for 46 runs, missed out on a half century as Tim Southee struck in the first over after Lunch. Mendis pulled a bouncer outside off from Southee and Mitchell Santner took a superb catch at fine leg to send the Sri Lankan opener back to the pavilion.

Another short ball gets the wicket. This time it is skipper and in-form batsman Angelo Mathews who played an unnecessary shot to a delivery bowled outside off. In doing so, he gloved the delivery to the wicketkeeper to give New Zealand their fifth wicket.

At the other end, Milinda Siwardana took the attack to Neil Wagner, smashing him for two boundaries and a six off the previous over.

This time it isn't that short. But it isn't that full either. Neil Wagner after getting hammered for a couple of sixes and a boundary off the previous over, gets Siriwardana to play a slog shot and hole out to the fielder at mid-wicket. There was enough time for Trent Boult to get under the ball and take an easy catch.
